Tucson Charter School Spotlight on Leadership
Courtney Braren came to AmeriSchools as a highly recommended teacher in 2001. She brought with her an intuitive understanding of how children learn and a deep understanding of elementary curriculum. Courtney earned her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University and she is mother to Ryan, an all around super young man who is in high school. She served as Lead Teacher before being named Principal in 2006. Courtney has developed an effective team and proves herself as an inspirational instructional leader everyday. She leads by example, providing mentoring, collaborative planning and even teaches an elective class herself! She supports a friendly, respectful learning environment where every child can succeed – and that makes a Difference.

Colleges and the work force experts identify that include teamwork, collaboration, creative problem solving, technology and global awareness are essential skills for success in the 21 st century. To respond to this need, AmeriSchools introduced the following into our enrichment program:

- Lead Guitar is provided through a grant with the Tucson Arts Commission and provides younger students an opportunity to learn how to play classical guitar.
- Spanish is integrated into our Humanities program and students can qualify for one year high school credit.

- Recreational sports and activities help students develop mind and body connections as well as encourage a healthy life style.
MIND and BODY Connections
School can be so many different thing, but most of all it should be a place of inspiration. The best thoughts about school aren’t about the worksheet or the textbook, but the experiences. Learning is an experience that is best remembered when it is Hands On – Minds On.

As children transition each year, they meet new challenges and are help more accountable for academic progress and social responsibility. Middle School students at AmeriSchools keep a portfolio called a RAP (Responsible for Academic Progress) Book. During conferences, teachers. students and parents use RAP books to set and review academic, social and behavior goals. This is how AmeriSchools personalizes each child’s learning plan.
